In big news, I’ve been working on a debut ALBUM for some time – full of new tracks that I’m excited to release. Some of you have heard work-in-progress versions of a couple of songs at my gigs around Sydney, and that’s been wicked for me to see which ones audiences get into!
Most of the upcoming songs I recorded as demos in 2024, which was a hard year for me financially, for my confidence and my mental health. Yet the songs forged in that fire are unexpectedly melodic, catchy and even at times quite POP (done my way). It’s an extension and expansion of my sound.
I’ve nearly finished the instrumentation (I played all instruments) and currently am in the process of re-recording vocals because my voice has improved since the demos.
My production and mixing skills have improved too, which is handy since I can’t afford to pay the $$$ it would cost for someone else to do it.
All my recording sessions take place at home. My process has included a variety of guitars and basses, mini keyboard, Ableton Live, voice notes on my iPhone to record my ideas for melodies and vocals, and a vocal booth I built in my wardrobe.
On my first 2 EPs, most songs were written on bass guitar first, then transcribed to other instruments. Maybe half the songs for this upcoming album began the same way on bass guitar, however others were written on guitar or keyboard for the first time, which has opened up new ideas and soundscapes for me.
The album will be out later this year.
